History of Late Night TV
Chevy Chase
Chevy Chase was known for his work as one of the original members of the groundbreaking cast of Saturday Night Live.
He had success as a comedic film star in the Vacation movies, Fletch, Three Amigos, Caddyshack, Spies Like Us and many more.
But, when it came to being a late night TV host, he was not cut out for the job. The show was painful to watch, it was so bad.
His show lasted for only five weeks on the Fox network, September-October of 1993.
This show was one of many that were launched in the wake of the Johnny Carson retirement. It started about the same time as David Letterman started on CBS and Conan started on NBC.
The show's bandleader was Tom Scott, who had worked on Pat Sajak's ill-fated late night show as well.
In recent years, Chase was a cast member for the NBC sitcom Community.
