History of Late Night TV
Band leader Fred Armisen
Seth Meyers
On February 24, 2014, Seth Meyers took over the 12:35 am NBC show from Jimmy Fallon. Like Fallon, Meyers gained popularity through being the weekend update anchor on Saturday Night Live. NBC has built quite a legacy of popular hosts in the 12:35 am time slot. Here is the history of this time period:
1973-1982 The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder
1982-1993 Late Night with David Letterman
1993-2009 Late Night with Conan O'Brien
2009-2014 Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
2014-???? Late Night with Seth Meyers
Meyers' first guests were SNL alum Amy Poehler and Vice President Joe Biden. On February 10, 2014 it was announced that Fred Armisen will be the bandleader for Meyers' show. The Studio 8G Band will be a five-piece group and Armisen will sing and play guitar. He has played in a punk band in the past and has also performed with Blue Man Group as an instrumentalist. Like Seth Meyers, he also has a background with SNL and he stars in the IFC program Portlandia.
