History of Late Night TV
Craig Kilborn
Kilborn worked as an ESPN sports anchor from 1993-1996.
He was the host of Comedy Central's Daily Show before Jon Stewart (1996-1998). Many aspects of the show that were created by Kilborn are still carried on by Stewart.
On the Late Late Show, he portrayed a vain guy who was looking in the mirror all the time. From 1999-2004 he hosted the Late Late Show, following the tenure of Tom Snyder. At the beginning of the show he did his own introduction. He entered to the song "Play that Funky Music White Boy." It was apparent that he had an interest in the bygone days of Hollywood. On the show he frequently referenced the legendary film producer Robert Evans and talk show host Merv Griffin.
Kilborn is 6'5" and he played college basketball on a scholarship to Montana State.
As an actor, he was in the films Old School and The Benchwarmers.
In 2010, select Fox stations aired The Kilborn File for a 6 week test run. It was not a hit. His sidekick was Christine Lakin, known for the sitcom Step by Step (1991-98). He said in a 2010 interview that the late night landscape was crowded and the formats are repetitive. He said that he left the Late Late Show since he had achieved all of his career goals. He said that the lifestyle was not all it was cracked up to be.
